Two noble gases. One goes down, one goes up.
Noble gases don't react or combine with anything, so the EPA doesn't regulate them. They simply displace oxygen — the targeted organism slowly goes to sleep and does not wake up — then the gas returns to the atmosphere to be extracted and used again.

Safe by its very nature
Odorless, tasteless, and colorless — safe around children and pets, and safe to use in vegetable gardens. No contamination risk near waterways or wetlands, where a detected contamination could result in considerable expense.
Proof of concept, expert reviewed
Small, medium, and large ant colonies have been successfully treated with argon, along with moles. The method is under review and assessment by a world-renowned entomologist at a major US university, evaluating gas volumes required per colony size with additional species already identified for expansion.
Working with Texas on agricultural export
Texas loses many millions of dollars in hay sales each year to fire ant quarantine restrictions. Conversations with the Texas Department of Agriculture have been positive: a farm working with a pest control company licensed in this method could obtain a single permit to satisfy USDA quarantine requirements for shipping hay, feed, and other products, to other states not under quarantine. Those discussions are expected to move forward later this year.

Compared with poison-based treatments, liability drops dramatically: there's no contamination risk near waterways.
